Aryan Naveen and Manasvini Ranganathan are two high schoolers who, after a trip to Nyumbani Children’s Home , were inspired to give back and spread the mission of Nyumbani back home in their own community. Together, they raise over $1,250! In their own words, Aryan and Manasvini shared their Nyumbani experience and successful fundraising campaign below.
“I recently traveled to Africa with a group of my family and friends, and during our trip we had the privilege to pay a visit to Nyumbani. It was truly a touching moment on how these kids, who are placed against all the odds are fighting not only to stay alive but to succeed in this world that has been so cruel to them. At that moment I swore to myself that I will help impact these kid’s lives in any possible way.
Post- visit, my opportunity to raise awareness for this cause came. My close friend Manasvini’s sister was having her arangetram, which is an indian classical dance graduation. They had invited over 350 guests, and we realized this was a prime opportunity to help get our cause across. I teamed up with Manasvini and we set out to impact the world in any way we could. We set up a website to which people could donate money remotely and we used social media to get the word out there. We created and ran a station to help people learn about this beautiful cause we were trying to raise money for. We even set up an information sheet for people to sign up for more information on Nyumbani. On the website we had first set a goal of $500 dollars but in less than two weeks this goal was met, raising our standards and expectations. In the end we ended up raising $1,295!”
