Hello friends of Nyumbani!
We are always eager to learn of recent happenings in Kenya at each of the Nyumbani programs. We were privileged this month to have Nyumbani Village‘s own John Katui provide us with an update from the Village as well as some recent pictures. John is a recent graduate of Nyumbani’s Lawson High School and aspires to be a photographer.
Highlights from December and January are:
- The staff of Nyumbani Village joined Sister Mary in nearby Kitui for a meeting and yearly celebration. They shared their challenges and ideas for the upcoming year. The staffed worked very hard throughout 2016 to achieve success in the three Village schools and social department. The end of year meeting unites the staff and encourages team work across the program. Staff who have worked in Nyumbani Village for over ten years were also recognized and rewarded during the event.
- The Home Care department recently took in 52 children and grandparents to the Village. In December of each year, the year 4 students (seniors in high school) graduate, leaving room available for new children.
- The children, grandparents, staff and volunteers who remained in the Village for the Christmas holiday, celebrated with a large feast – chapati (a flat bread), soda, fresh meat and more! It was a great way to come together to celebrate the holiday.
Thank you John for sharing your pictures and report of happenings in the Village!
