This spring a team of nutritionists in Nyumbani’s Lea Toto Community Outreach Program carried out a survey of the household economic status in our Lea Toto families. They gave a presentation of their findings at one of Nyumbani’s Continuing Medical Education (CME) meetings.
The results of the survey were gratifying, indicating how Lea Toto economic empowerment interventions (EEI) have improved the standard of living in Lea Toto families, but also startling.
The study found that:
- A Lea Toto household hosts an average of 6 members.
- Supper is the most consistent meal at 93% with only 30% capable of taking 3 meals per day.
- 3 out of 10 households earn less than 2 dollars per day, thus, living below global poverty index.
The results of the survey show just how important and needed Nyumbani’s EEI services are for the Lea Toto families.
