Child Sponsorship programme

This is where the donor contributes from €10 per month upwards to help with a particular child’s education or medication expenses. This money goes into a sponsorship account in our bank Bank of Ireland Marino by standing order and it is paid over monthly by credit transfer to Nyumbani.

To date we have over 200 children sponsored and we send to Nyumbani by credit transfer €4,000 per month. This was made possible thanks mainly the parishioners of St John the Baptist Clontarf and St Vincent de Paul Marino.

The building fund

Through the most generous support of donors and sponsors, Kenya Orphan Aid has been able to support Nyumbani in the following ways:

• Our monthly child sponsorship program is used to provide accommodation, food and education, both primary and secondary to the 109 children in Nyumbani Orphanage, to 3,500 AIDS positive children in the slum area around Nairobi and now we aim to provide access to education for the destitute AIDS affected and infected children in Kitui Village.

• Building of teen houses at Nyumbani, Kenya. The teenagers moved into Holy Faith House and St. John the Baptist House in December 2006. Our other two houses St. Vincent de Paul House and St. Joseph’s House are now complete and occupied.

• Kenya Orphan Aid has equipped the medical centre in Kitui Village which will serve the needs of The Nyumbani Village residents and local community.

• The building of five houses in Nyumbani Village, Kitui Kenya.

• A car was purchased in June 2007 for the Lea Toto, outreach team.

• Installation of a toilet in Kibera clinic in June 2007.

• Kenya Orphan Aid hosted ten children from  Nyumbani and two of their carers in August 2007. The children thoroughly enjoyed ten days in Dublin. We are currently planning the 2008 trip to Ireland for the children.

Current project

Our current project is to purchase land in the Kariobangi area and to build a Clinic and Community Centre that will offer holistic, educative and life saving care to HIV/AIDS positive children and their community.  As part of that Centre, we would hope, to fund a facility whereby those affected by HIV/AIDS can receive legal advice and support in relation to areas relevant to their specific needs.

Donors are sent progress and completion reports and payment is on a phased basis, on receipt of completion certificates and photographic reports.

Annual events

• Women’s  mini marathon (10km) Dublin
This is a fun day for over 40,000 women who use the event to fund raise for many different charities. It is a great day with a reception after the event. This year we hope to have over 100 participants.

Christmas Raffle and Christmas cards

• Church gate collections and bag packing to fund the visit to Dublin of 10 children from Nyumbani in August. Fundraising for this event is separate to our fundraising for building or child sponsorship. Last year we received an overwhelming response.

What can you do to help?

We are always looking for people to sponsor children from as little as €10 per month. Has your parish got a sponsorship project? Has your employment or club got a sponsorship project?

Walk, run or jog the women’s mini marathon on Monday, the June bank holiday.

Participate in any of our other fundraising events.
