There are some exciting new additions to one of Nyumbani’s programs. Two new greenhouses have been built in Nyumbani Village. The new greenhouses are a great addition to the robust sustainability program in the Village. They are different from the existing greenhouses as their skeletons are made of metal as opposed to wood or plastic piping. This means that these structures will be much stronger and durable over time. The new greenhouses will be ready for planting soon and the Village looks forward to the production boost they will provide.
Greenhouses are a very important part of Nyumbani Village’s sustainability program. They produce vegetables all year round, as opposed to the rain-fed seasonal crops planted in the Village’s fields. Produce like tomatoes are grown in the greenhouses using drip irrigation and organic pesticide. The freshly picked harvest is distributed to the Village children and grandparents at weekly food distribution. Excess crop is sold in local markets, bringing profit back to the Village.
We are very excited for these new additions to the Village!
