A group of Polish medical students, through Harambee Polska and the Polish Medical Mission, recently made a donation to the Village of 1 metric ton of shoes. The students have visited Nyumbani Village numerous times over the past year. This is an incredible generous gift and will be put to excellent use by the children of Nyumbani. However, their was work to be done once the shoes arrived in the Village. Princeton in Africa fellow Shan Nagar reported that sorting through the shoes was task much longer than they perceived. Shan and French volunteer Ann-Sophie worked for hours, sorting the shoes by size while also locating the estranged pairs of shoes that had been separated during travel. The work was well worth the effort however, as over the course of a few days Shan, Ann-Sophie and Village staff were able to distribute shoes to 7 different classes from Hotcourses Primary School.
Thank you very much to the Polish students for their generous donation and to Shan, Ann-Sophie and Nyumbani staff for their hard work in distributing the shoes!
